Meet Dr. Fronkensteen

Hey I'm Ricky Young (Dr. Fronkensteen) and I'm a playwright, director, producer, and theatre artist from Clarksville, TN. I received my Bachelor of Science in Theatre Performance at Austin Peay State University where and was awarded "Outstanding Graduating Senior in Theatre and Dance". Now I'm currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA.

Some of my writing credits include Alphabet at Clarksville High School, Danielle: Diary of a Cutter at APSU and The Roxy Regional Theatre's The Other Space. His short plays include: Clara, Alice, Crazy Makes you Crazy, Last Hope for Twenty Miles which were produced by the Fronkensteen Experimental Theatre Group, a non-profit which he founded. And my most recent play, 27 Days, is getting it's world premiere in Roanoke as we speak.

Meet Dr. Fronkensteen

So what is Fronkensteen? Fronkensteen is the philosophy of my artistic life. Sometimes when we create a work of art we're like the Dr. Frankenstein trying to piece together all the ideas and styles and stories of the past to create our own monster and bring it to life. Our artistic styles, lives, and passions are our own monsters and we just hope in the meantime that it doesn't get a life of it's own and go on a rampage and destroy us. Fronkensteen is experimentation. Fronkensteen is stealing from the old to make the new. Fronkensteen is following our passions and craft no matter what.

I don't know all the answers. I'm just a playwright and theatre artist trying to find my way and turn my passion into a career. And I'm sharing my journey with all of you. Take a look at my blog or my portfolio, read samples of my plays, and if you like, reach out to me if you wanna work with me or collaborate on one of my projects.
